Tell local heating engineers what you need
Say what the boiler burns, roughly how old it is and where it sits in the house. Add what you would like done: a like-for-like combi swap, a first service on a boiler you have just inherited with a house purchase, a replacement for a tired oil boiler or advice on a pellet system. Include your postcode so businesses can check they cover your area.
Combi Boiler Quotes introduces homeowners to independent heating businesses. Submit one free online enquiry and you may receive up to four quotations from engineers who cover your postcode and take on that type of work. Responses depend on availability and local coverage; four quotations are not guaranteed. You can decline every quotation.
From your enquiry to a written quote
- Describe the boiler and the job. Fuel type, age, location, whether there is a hot water cylinder, and the number of bathrooms.
- Talk to the engineers who respond. They may ask for photographs of the boiler, flue, oil tank or chimney, or book a survey.
- Check any survey charge. Sending an enquiry is free. Most replacement surveys are free too, but ask before booking one.
- Compare written quotes. Check the appliance model, output, warranty, flue, controls, system cleaning, VAT and removal of old equipment.
Indicative UK boiler prices
These are indicative UK budgeting ranges, not guaranteed prices or measured local averages. Installation rows cover supply and fitting for the stated scope; servicing is per visit and cover is per year. Ask for a written total showing VAT and any exclusions. The first six rows are the guide ranges for our six enquiry services; the narrower examples and add-ons below are not amounts to add automatically.
| Service or task | Guide range | Scope to check |
|---|---|---|
| Combi Boiler Replacement | £1,900–£4,200 | From a like-for-like swap in the same position to a conversion from a system or regular boiler. |
| Annual Boiler Service | £70–£150 | Single gas boiler service with a flue gas analysis; landlord safety records may be priced separately. |
| Oil Boiler Replacement | £3,000–£6,500 | Indoor or external condensing oil boiler; a new oil tank is usually a separate cost. |
| Solid Fuel Boilers | £2,500–£8,000 | Boiler stove, back boiler or independent boiler with flue work; chimney repairs may be extra. |
| Boiler Cover | £100–£360 a year | From boiler-only breakdown cover to plans adding heating, plumbing and an annual service. |
| Biomass Boilers | £10,000–£22,000 | Pellet or log boiler with buffer tank, flue and fuel store, before any grant is deducted. |
| Like-for-like combi swap, same position | £1,900–£2,800 | Same location, existing flue route usable, standard controls. |
| System or regular boiler to combi conversion | £3,000–£4,200 | Cylinder and loft tanks removed, pipework altered, possibly a new boiler position. |
| Landlord gas safety record (CP12) | £60–£100 | One boiler plus a small number of other gas appliances; servicing is a separate job. |
| Replacement steel or plastic bunded oil tank | £1,500–£3,500 | Separate tank replacement allowance; check fuel transfer, base, access and removal of the old tank. |
For independent sense-checks, the Energy Saving Trust's biomass guidance explains system choices and running considerations for domestic biomass boilers. Use it to assess system suitability and fuel handling; it is not a price promise for your property.
For comparison, Heatable’s installation cost guide distinguishes combi swaps, conversions and oil installations. An example of separately priced gas safety checks illustrates why a landlord record should not be assumed to be part of a service. Published scopes differ, and complex jobs can exceed the ranges above.
What pushes a boiler quote up or down?
Staying in the same position with the same flue route is the cheapest arrangement for any boiler. Moving a gas combi from the kitchen to a loft or utility room adds new gas pipe, condensate routing and sometimes a vertical flue through the roof. If the existing gas supply pipe is too narrow for the new boiler's output, it will need upsizing back to the meter.
The appliance matters as well. A mid-range combi from a major manufacturer with a 10-year warranty costs more than an entry-level model with two years, and the warranty terms usually require annual servicing. For oil, an external boiler saves indoor space but needs a weatherproof position and protected pipe runs. For solid fuel and biomass, the flue, chimney condition and heat store often cost as much as the boiler itself.
Finally, system condition. Old radiators full of sludge can damage a new heat exchanger quickly, so many engineers include a chemical clean or power flush plus a magnetic filter. Ask whether that is in the price and what method will be used.
Useful details for each type of job
- Combi replacement: number of bathrooms and showers, whether you have a hot water cylinder or loft tanks, and the boiler's current position.
- Annual service: boiler make and model, the date of the last service if known, and whether it is still under manufacturer's warranty.
- Oil boiler: internal or external boiler, the age and material of the oil tank, and whether you also have a separate hot water cylinder.
- Solid fuel: the fuel you burn, whether the boiler is behind an open fire or a stove, the chimney's condition and whether the property is in a smoke control area.
- Boiler cover: boiler age, when it was last serviced, any known faults and whether you want plumbing and drains included.
- Biomass: floor area of the house, where a fuel store could go, the space available for a buffer tank and whether you plan to apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
Checks before accepting a quote
Companies joining the network are asked to provide relevant insurance details and references. Before booking, ask the business for current evidence of its insurance and check competence for the appliance and fuel. Paid gas work requires Gas Safe registration; other schemes offer relevant competence and certification routes, with rules varying by country. Check the schemes directly: Gas Safe Register, OFTEC, HETAS or MCS. An introduction does not guarantee the work.
After a new boiler is fitted you should receive the manufacturer's commissioning checklist (the Benchmark checklist for most gas boilers), confirmation that the warranty has been registered, and the applicable building compliance or approval documents. Agree the notification route for England or Wales, or the separate procedures applying in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
Gas leak or carbon monoxide?
This is an enquiry service, not an emergency response. For a suspected gas leak or carbon monoxide incident, follow the Gas Safe Register emergency guidance and do not wait for a quotation. Do not restart an appliance suspected to be unsafe.
Send the details and choose in your own time
Complete the enquiry form with the fuel type, boiler age and what you would like done. Each responding engineer gives their own price and availability. We make the introduction; you decide whether to book and agree the work directly with that business.
